This year’s theme for the Met Gala was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, which sounded like it had the potential to be pretty controversial. Evidently Anna Wintour and the Met must have had similar concerns as they went as far as getting the theme approved by the Vatican.
In fact, the accompanying exhibit will even include 50 garments and accessories on loan from the Vatican.
I will say, while I had trepidations, I was thoroughly entertained. Often, it seems like the theme is ignored but the celebrities really brought it this year, I love it for the absurdness.
Here are some of the looks that stood out the most to me, for better or worse.
I have to say, I think Blake Lively had my favorite look of the night. I mean, she looks perfect here in Christian Louboutin. Even her handsome husband was too intimidated to be seen next to such a Goddess.
Lena Waithe wore a Carolina Herrera-designed rainbow cape and I couldn’t love it more.
Ariana Grande killed it in Vera Wang. She beautifully combined fashion, the theme, and art with Michelangelo’s Last Judgement printed on her dress.
What do we think about Kate Bosworth? Was this Oscar de la Renta dress on point or a miss? I can’t tell how I feel.
But I do know that I do not like Claire Danes in this.
I love that Cardi B rocked a Moschino beaded headpiece and gown. I mean, she’s Cardi B so I feel like she totally pulls it off.
I feel like I am the only one that was feeling Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Halo Headpiece…
I’m glad Anne Hathaway was there to make me appreciate Amber Heard’s look.
Sorry Shailine Woodley, your outfit looks like a Pinterest Fail version of Zendaya’s Versace gown.
Appreciate Chadwick Boseman and Jared Letto for being two of the only men that went for it.
Katy Perry Looks absolutely ridiculous but I appreciate the effort. My favorite part of the night was when she literally kneeled down on the carpet to pose and the television host said, “oh, well, she’s giving us a moment”. Yes she is.
Love YSL and Kate Moss but this dress reminds me of Sam the Eagle
Kendall and Kylie Jenner didn’t even try, but Kendall still looks super beautiful.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen pretty much look how I would feel in the presence of Blake Lively, like a homely peasant.
I really dislike everything about Scarlett Johansson’s look. It’s a bad dress with bad hair that’s not even on theme.
Oh Frances McDormand, what is going on?
I think I liked Kim Kardashian West’s Gianni Versace look more than everyone else.
Have to mention Madonna because I feel like this theme was made for her, but I’m not blown away.
What do you think? Did you have any favorite or least favorite looks at the Gala this year? Who do you think slayed it?
