Favorite Road Trips from Boulder, CO – Arches National Park and Canyonlands in Moab, Utah

For David’s birthday we decided to take a road trip to Arches National Park and Canyonlands.

We had an absolute blast.  It was a little tricky picking accommodation because we knew we would have some early mornings catching the sunrises in the parks, but also wanted to have this view during dinner…

So we opted to stay at the Sorrel River Ranch, even though it was a bit out of town, where we enjoyed a riverside cabin and the resort’s restaurants.

Our first hike was to Mesa Arch in Canyonlands, followed by a beautiful sunset at Green River Overlook.

And on David’s birthday we got up bright and early to hike Window’s Loop in order to see the sunrise from the North Window in Arches National Park.

My favorite hike of the trip was Delicate Arch, I’m so glad that we were there early and pretty much had it to ourselves.  I thought that it would be a letdown after seeing so many pictures in the past, but it was one of the most awe-inspiring finales to a hike I’ve ever experienced.

After completing a third hike (Devils Garden) we were starving and headed to Milt’s Stop N’ Eat for a gourmet birthday lunch complete with home-made old fashioned shakes that I am still thinking about.

We were so lucky to be able to go on such a fun birthday adventure only a 5 hour drive away! How do you like to celebrate your birthdays?  For the major milestones I love to take a trip if we are able, but normally my go-to is a movie and Vietnamese food.
