Favorite Road Trips from Boulder, CO – Telluride

I saved the best for last!  Our favorite place in Colorado so far is Telluride.  We can’t stay away and get back as often as we can.  We love everything about Telluride, the laid back vibe and neighborhood feel, the breathtaking views, the vast array of outdoor activities, the delicious restaurants, the first-rate festivals, the list goes on and on.

I mean, could this town be more charming?

Even though something weird tends to happen service-wise nearly every time we go, we love staying at the Hotel Madeline.  We like being up in Mountain Village because of the views, enjoy the hotel’s proximity to coffee and the Gondola, but most of all, we love its pool and spa area (which we often have to ourselves in the summer).

So far our top three favorite hikes are:

  • Bear Creek Falls Trail
  • Hope Lake Trail
  • Jud Wiebe Memorial Trail

We love fly fishing at Alta Lakes for the views and crystal clear water but the fish are PICKY.

Our favorite Restaurants are:

  • There – Amazing sticky buns, great for sharing lots of different plates, incredible cocktails.
  • Allreds – Go before sunset for Happy Hour to enjoy the spectacular view!
  • Brown Dog Pizza – Incredible pizza that tastes even better after a long day of hiking.
  • The Cosmopolitan – For a fancy night out or just go for dessert.
  • Baked in Telluride – For a pre or post hike cake donut.
  • Taco del Gnar – For tacos, obviously.
  • New Sheridan Hotel – For rooftop cocktails.

Also, I have to mention my favorite chocolate shop, Telluride Truffle.  Not only do they make some of the best chocolates I have ever had, they are also responsible for one of my favorite Telluride memories.

After a phenomenal dinner at There (and maybe a few cocktails) with some of our closest friends, one of my besties and I decided to run to Telluride Chocolate before they closed to get dessert.

After buying at least a dozen chocolates to try, we met our husbands back at the Madeline, where we engaged in an an oddly intense game of Scattegories, and feasted on all the chocolates (and maybe opened another/two more bottles of wine).

Telluride Truffle also serves delicious Boulder Organic Ice Cream. We always get a scoop before walking the main street to visit art galleries and shops.

Telluride is such a special place.  David and I hope we will have the opportunity to return many times in the future, we’ve even fantasized about moving there one day.

This is the final post on past road trips we have enjoyed since moving to Colorado.

There were so many amazing places we enjoyed that I wasn’t able to talk about such as Aspen, Steamboat Springs, Estes Park, Breckenridge, Nederland, Gunnison National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Pagosa Springs, Palisade, Mesa Verde and many more.   They are all worth a visit if you get the chance!

We’ve been so lucky to have such a magnificent playground at our fingertips and done our best to take advantage of the opportunity to visit many the interesting places this part of the world has to offer.

We still have a couple more Colorado adventures before we leave town.  We are going to a completely new area this weekend!  I have asked many people about it (from friends, to my dentist, to the checkout person at Trader Joe’s) and I have yet to talk to someone who has been.
